Vintage drum table makeover

Hello friend!

We have a blessedly cooler day today in the Pacific NW and I am totally ok with it after lots of hot days in the 90’s and higher. On those super warm days I try to focus on projects inside that I have been meaning to get to.

I have been selling quite a bit on Facebook Marketplace and have met some great people in the process! It is really fun to connect with other people in your community that love vintage, and are looking for a good deal in the process. Some of my favorite pieces are usually found for a song and restored for us to enjoy in our home. When it’s time to pass them along I usually end up selling them for more than I purchased originally. I like to price my stuff a bit lower than the average of what I see them going for online and it works great. Everyone wants a great deal and I have just put some cash in my thrifting budget.

Some of those meaning-to-get-to projects stay untouched while we are on a remodel for a client, but there are days when we have subcontractors working and I am able to get a few things done at home.

I cherish those moments puttering about and hanging that curtain that I have been looking for or filling a jar with fresh cut hydrangeas. There is something so magical about fluffing your nest and making it feel cozy.

I spend a little time in the garden before the sun gets too intense, shushing our roosters hoping they are not bothering our neighbor too much.

I am always amazed at the beauty of something so simple like a little seed, planted and cared for, turning into delicious food we can eat and share.

And trying even in the heat to relish each moment outside in the sunshine as we can have long, rainy winters here.

Just about when I cannot think about another rainy day mid-winter I begin to plan my garden and remind myself that we will be pulling weeds and eating fresh greens before we know it.

Just a little faith and patience.

And a lot of indoor projects to keep the impatient busy!

On a day recently that was strictly intended for essential errands I felt the pull of a tag sale down the road. In my I head I went over my running list of top items to prioritize (this helps me with impulse buys) linens in good shape, books, copper molds, a pair of French chairs (that have eluded me but I intend to find someday!) and furniture to refurbish and resell.

I saw a little round table before I had put my car in park and I hoped that this would be the kind of sale that I love. Lots of good stuff, and fair prices where everyone wins!

It was my kind of sale, and this pretty little drum table was mine for $12 bucks. Not bad at all!

On a visit to a vintage shop that also sells Fusion Mineral Paint I bought my favorite color Algonquin again, and also grabbed Sacred Sage. It looks grey but it has quite a bit of green in the undertones as well. I am sure it is much better to buy paint AFTER you have established what you will be painting but that is just not how my brain works so I do it this way. It works pretty well but I do have an excess of paint. Tell me I am not the only one?

I lugged the sweet little table up the drive and decided I would let her simmer for a few days while I make sure that is the color I want to use.

It was, and I really do love this color so much.

It is a mid tone so it’s not super light, and with just the right amount of sage in the grey it looks lovely when it dries.

I used a bit of blue painters tape to protect the metal pull and feet, and with two coats of paint she was ready to go.

I could probably have waited for better lighting but I just thought she was too sweet not to share right away. The best part of this is my youngest, Abbie LOVES to decorate with me. We ooh and ah over just the right finds and she is beginning to love to decorate too. She has a great eye and I think she is going to be a fan of vintage and shabby by the items she is drawn to.

And she can spot real copper from the knock offs at 12, so this may just be her calling!

I hope this finds you well and cozy today, and I cannot wait to share my slipcovers I am sewing and what I am going to make with all those tomatoes.

Until next time! xoxo

  5. Loving this peek into your thrifty home decor adventures! That vintage drum table makeover sounds amazing. Do you have a favorite piece you’ve restored? And how do you decide which projects to tackle first when you have so many in mind? 😜

  6. Such a creative transformation—love how the vintage drum table keeps its character while getting a fresh, updated look. Mixing old pieces with modern touches can really elevate a space without losing personality. Pieces like this pair especially well with clean, mid-century accents, and collections from france and son fit naturally into that kind of style, making it easier to build a cohesive room around a standout DIY project like this.
