Thrifted + vintage cottage gallery wall

Hello friends!

Two amazing things happened this week that I am beyond excited to share.

The first, SPRING FLOWERS are everywhere for sale in our town. Every store has shelves of primrose and pansies brightly greeting you as you grab a cart and enter the grocery store. I can think of nothing more exciting after a long winter than those first Spring sightings!

The second exciting thing (well exciting to me at least, if the Spring flowers weren’t news enough right?) I refreshed a little corner in our front living room with cottagy goodness all on a strict budget!

This project was inspired by two sets of very affordable prints I found on Amazon. Here are the two sets I ended up ordering:

Each included a variety of sizes and lovely botanical prints as well as landscapes.

While I was rummaging around for old picture frames I found the little horse plate that belonged to my Grandfather. His name was Duke, he broke wild horses at 17 on a ranch and fell in love with them. I felt like he was right there with me that day admiring the little cracked horse plate that I have not unboxed in years. I didn’t find all the frames I needed so a thrift store trip was in order, but that little plate become part of my project immediately.

I found this silver toned tray while thrifting for $7.99, It is very heavy and I felt it was fairly priced for such a nice piece. If you are also an avid thrifter I have to ask, have you in your area also felt some sticker shock when thrifting lately?

Anyways, back home I headed with a French chafing dish, that pretty silver tray and just enough picture frames to complete my project.

I started with a clean slate and put a jute runner on the old dresser for texture. Layering the silver tray with the chafing dish on top (who said chafing dishes are only for the kitchen right?) and set to arranging the frames and plates until I had the right mix and balance I was looking for.

I tried both the long wall sconce and the vintage drying rack to the left and I really like both. What do you think? Are you loving the cozy warmth of cottage decorating right now? I am hooked! I could not love the understated mix, and the simplicity of the neutral colors more.

I hope this finds you beginning your weekend with a little time to putter and do whatever makes your heart the most happy my friend!

Until next time, xx Tanya

  1. Ok, I love gallery walls but you knocked it out of the park. love, Love, LOVE this. And the story of your grandfather’s horse paste is perfection. I prefer the vintage drying rack just cuz it’s super unique, but you’re right, both look great. 7.99 for that tray is a decent price. I shop silver-plate all the time and I would have snatched it up. Have a fantastic day surrounded by flowers. XO- MaryJo

  13. That tray for 7.99 is a steal, I’m still annoyed I missed out on something similar last week. I ended up needing a heic to pdf converter just to archive some old auction listings I found, so maybe now I can actually keep track of my finds.
