I am SUPER excited about (well a bunch of things but focusing on) 3 things today!
First, it is 47 degrees this morning in our area of WA State.
Second, it is officially the first week of Fall now, not that we waited but it just feels really Fall-ey now.
Third, I have been thrifting a ton recently and am so excited to show you how I turned a soft linen tablecloth into a cozy throw blanket.
I am putting the finishing touches on our neutral Halloween decor as well, I cannot wait to share that soon. See, SO MUCH to be excited about 🙂
I knew this tablecloth would be too small for our long farmhouse dining table but a beautiful linen tablecloth with no stains and oh so soft has to come home with me.
It’s a rule right?
Do I have a bunch of other fabric that I could have used? Yes.
But LINEN is different. I love it’s natural wrinkles, and how incredibly soft it is.
We are such a throw blanket family. All year round but especially in Fall and Winter.
I was initially going to line this with a nice flannel but I had recently picked up a 50″ x 60″ super soft throw at Ross and knew it would make a great liner.
Linen is not lightweight, and after adding the soft sage green throw on the back as the liner, this throw blanket almost feels like a weighted blanket.
Here is how I made this super easy DIY Linen Throw Blanket.
I measured the tablecloth and saw that by trimming about three inches all around the edges this would make it the same size as the lining blanket. This also gave me plenty of pre-hemmed ruffles for the ends.
Once the pieces were cut and the same size, I created the ruffle by folding the part I trimmed off every few inches and making this super simple little pin tuck along each end of the linen front.
I pinned this ruffle to the front of the blanket and sewed it onto each end. Once that was done, I ran a seam down one end and both sides of the blanket with the outside of each piece facing each other.
I turned it right side out and carefully folding the green edge under, stitched the remaining open end together.
And just like that this super soft, and very cozy blanket was done!
The most time consuming part of the project was taking some pictures as today was a super dark, rainy day here in the Northwest.
Perfect weather for a fluffy, soft new throw and a good book however!
The wind is picking up outside and we look to be having the first storm of the season. I’m tucking my sewing machine away for now and deciding if I want to start dinner early or curl up and test this blanket out.
