DIY Sugared Fruit Christmas Ornaments

Hello friends!

Well it seems we have officially entered the freezing cold season here in the Pacific NW. We are getting down into the 20’s at night and have run heat out to the chicken coop and rabbit hutch to keep our furry and feathered family members cozy.

Nothing gets me motivated to start thinking about my Christmas decor more than pulling on a warm coat to drive the kids to school.

And scraping your windows in the morning, that will do it for sure if the coat didn’t!

Halloween is the breaking point for me usually each year, I don’t decorate for Christmas until Thanksgiving break, but I am usually beginning to plan by now and make a few things too.

Being a lover of all things vintage, sparkly, chipped, shabby and aged I love the preparation that goes into my Christmas home so much each year.

In the spirit of bringing the outdoors in with a tree adorned simply or plastered with ornaments (I lean a bit towards the latter) I decided to make a few of my own Sugared Ornaments this year.

I had bought a couple branches of what looked like little faux oranges at Dollar Tree this summer. I ended up not using them and recently saw them in my craft and decor storage area.

I had already bought the lovely sage colored green felt for another project and thought how pretty these would look with some glitter.

I cut some felt into small leaves and using a dab of hot glue added either one or two leaves to each orange. Using a foam brush I gave the fruit and leaves and good coat of Mod Podge, dipping and sprinkling each with clear glitter and setting them on waxed paper to dry.

I love how they turned out! So simple yet so elegant, the power of glitter and faux fruit in all their glory.

I am obsessed with them.

And admittedly still cleaning up the glitter.

But there will be much more glitter to follow so like most of us, I will just try to keep it under control for the next few months 🙂

Projects like this make me feel like a kid again. My Grandpa Duke would buy cherry wood for our fireplace (the smell is amazing) and with Elvis belting out Christmas songs in the background, he and I were in charge of trimming the tree every year.

He probably did not know it at the time, but we were creating traditions and memories that I would carry with me close to my heart for many years to come.

I encourage you to think back to what made your heart leap as a child, what made you feel alive and full of wonder at Christmastime.

Those are the moments that really matter, and the feeling of warmth and coziness that we share with our loved ones each year.

I hope this finds you having a blessed week, and knowing in your heart how truly special and important you are. I appreciate your reading and following along so much!

Until next time, xx Tanya

  3. These are amazing, Tanya! I am so excited about the way they came together. They look just like authentic sugared fruit. I can’t believe you guys are already in the 20s. It was in the 80s in Florida today. I don’t know that I could handle those temps for too long but I’d definitely trade you for a weekend in a heartbeat 🙂 Can’t wait to see what else you have in store for the holidays. These are gorgeous! Hugs, CoCo

  4. Love your sugared fruit ornaments! I’m a big fan of cottagecore too. Do you think real oranges would work as well? Can’t wait to see more of your Christmas decor.

  5. Wow, it really sounds like winter has hit hard in the Pacific NW! Keeping the kids warm and making sure your pets are cozy in their coops and hutches is no small feat, especially when temperatures drop into the 20s at night. It’s impressive how you manage all of that while still finding time to start planning your Christmas decorations—it really shows the dedication and multitasking skills needed during the holiday season. Speaking of dedication and planning, I recently came across this sbcnews.co.uk/europe/2025/01/10/soft2bet-2024-mega-report/ report about Soft2Bet, a company actively working across the UK and Europe. The article goes into detail about how the company manages its operations, growth strategies, and adapts to trends in the online gaming and betting industry. It’s quite insightful to see how a business balances rapid expansion with maintaining strong connections to local markets. Definitely worth a read if you’re interested in seeing how modern companies scale efficiently while staying competitive!
