Book page + sheet music paper feathers

Hello friends!

We are having blessedly cooler weather in the Pacific NW, and our evenings are getting chilly as well. I will have to check our nighttime temps soon as I usually run heat out to our chicken coop for our hens and rabbit Peeter (our youngest chose the name and spelling for said rabbit.)

Fall is upon us, and I noticed the first Christmas ornaments for sale this week at JoAnn’s, I’M NOT READY FOR THAT.

It all gets here sooner than we are ready for it seems but I am enjoying every moment of this Fall season that I can!

Dried or faux stems filling pitchers and crocks scattered around giving each space and shelf the warmth and cozy that is Fall.

I begin my decor in late August each year, as I see the garden winding down and nights getting a bit cooler.

I find myself tucking leaves and stems here and there, by the time mid September arrives I have my Fall decorating complete.

In years past I have opted for more rusts and orange.

This year I have some of those lovely tones, but the majority is more neutral, like honey tones and lovely soft browns.

I recently shared how to make books look vintage, you can check out that tutorial here. And those lovely stacks of yellowed books reminded me this week of some vintage sheet music I have tucked away.

Digging thru some of my favorite paper and old books I have used just for creating, I found the bundle of old sheet music.

It’s gotten a bit more brittle in recent years so I have been careful when I am working with it.

Using an old copy of To Kill A Mockingbird as well I thought a pitcher of paper feathers would look nice alongside some brass candlesticks and gilded peacock.

Fall and feathers seem to go together so well.

If you have a cozy blanket, a warm drink and a beloved book will certainly find their way to the blanket to be enjoyed together on those cozy nights, or days!

This DIY was so quick that I was styling the paper feathers in this silver pitcher while my glue gun was cooling down 🙂

These would make a lovely garland or wreath as well, I opted (for now) to make enough to fill my little silver pitcher and I just love the texture and warmth them bring!

Here is what I used to make my book page and sheet music paper feathers…

I used some pages from an old copy of a paperback, and the sheet music in the picture above.

I cut out a larger and smaller template from cardstock, and decided the large “feathers” would be from the sheet music, and small feathers from the old paperback pages.

After I folder the paper in half and cut out each feather I left them folded and cut a row alongside the edge of strips to make the feathery part of the feather.

I am not sure that is a word but my laptop did not autocorrect so we are rolling with it.

I used a fabric covered wire that you can buy in a package in the floral section of your local craft store. Cutting each stem to the length that I wanted and adding a few dots of hot glue on the back of each feather.

I gave the edges a little scrunch (this brought all of the feels of 80’s hair back (while I was scrunching I could have sworn I smelled Paul Mitchell Freeze and Shine hairspray during this process.)

And before I knew it the feathers were done and I felt the need to play Wham for a bit on my Alexa while I got to styling these pretty paper feathers.

They come together so fast these would look gorgeous in a big fluffy wreath or garland draped over a mantel or hutch.

Last Fall I made a leaf garland that you can find the directions for here. It was also very easy to make!

Well there you have it, scrunchy hair, Wham, and a silver pitcher full of pretty paper feathers all in one sitting 🙂

I hope you are having an amazing week and I would love to hear what you are up to this beautiful September.

Until next time friend, stay cozy and thank you SO much for reading.

Your support and sweet messages mean so much!

xo, Tanya

What a fun craft to make for Fall…there’s like literally nothing you can’t re-use to make something out of…even old sheet music!
The feathers look so lovely and are styled beautifully in your vintage vessels.

  4. Love this Fall decor journey! I’m with you on not being ready for Christmas stuff so soon. Your neutral color scheme this year sounds lovely. And those paper feathers are a brilliant idea! I once made something similar with old maps. It’s so fun to repurpose. Do you think you’ll add any fresh fall foliage to your decor as the season progresses?

  5. I loved the creative approach of using paper feathers on the sheet music—it adds such a tactile and visual layer to musical expression. It’s one of the reasons I’ve been exploring New York Jazz Workshop, as their lessons help bring these kinds of artistic concepts to life through performance. Learning how to translate written notes into expressive sound has become much more engaging when I connect it with hands-on, visual ideas like this. Combining technique with creativity not only improves my musicianship but also makes practicing more enjoyable and inspiring every day.

  6. There’s something really poetic about this composition — the open book, the sheet music, and the feathers all feel like fragments of a quiet story in motion. It instantly makes you think about how words and melodies overlap, how emotions can live both on a page and in sound. It actually reminded me of how some novels feel almost musical in the way they’re written. If you enjoy that kind of emotional depth, I recently read a great ugly love summary that captures those same raw, lyrical feelings. Pieces like this make reading feel visual, intimate, and timeless.

  7. Ragdoll hit lets you stroll, swing, and lift anything on the map. Ragdoll physics make impacts funny and shock-inducing. You win by knocking an enemy off the platform or diminishing their health. Collect weapons, unlock skins, and play different match modes. Fast to start, it’s perfect for solitary or friend battles.

  8. Every second in Geometry Dash Lite is an accuracy test, and each musical beat is a coded signal that you must decipher. Over time, patterns shift. The predicted time of the disguised approach is difficult. In addition to enjoying yourself, you are reacting, understanding the cadence of the chaos, and overcoming obstacles.
