Beaded succulent wall hanging DIY

Hey friends! How is your July going?

I cannot believe how quick this summer is flying by, I wish it would slow down a bit and not be mid July already 🙂

I was organizing some of my craft supplies recently and got some inspiration for a new wall hanging. I had already purchased this large faux succulent and I was not sure what I was going to do with it (how all craft supplies are purchased right?)

I set aside some natural thick cotton twine and some pre-strung beads and realized this would make a super easy and pretty DIY wall hanging!

A bag of finished or unfinished wood beads in the color of your choice would work great too, then some narrow twine to sting them on to get the same effect.

I began by using a small thin board that was left over (like the thickness of a paint stir stick) and cut it in 2 14″ long pieces.

I measured each of the cotton twine pieces and the pre-beaded strings 40″ to give enough length to glue the top on the base piece of wood, then bring them to the other side to glue down.

Once each row was secured on each end in order, they had an overlapping effect that I really like. Next I cut a piece of twine 20″ long and knotted it at each end. I glued those knots down then glued the front piece of wood on with hot glue to cover all the ends and complete the front.

I tried a few different things to attach the stem of the large succulent to the wood but ended up drilling a hole and hot-gluing it in place. On the back I trimmed the end of the stem flush and my DIY beaded succulent wall hanging was complete!

This took under 45 minutes since I used hot glue which dries quickly and pre-strung beads. If you string your own beads it may take a bit longer.

I am loving it, what do you think? This could go in 20 different spaces in our home and maybe with a smaller succulent be awesome on a door.

Right now it’s in our ever-changing entry way and I love the fun beachy vibes it’s giving!

As always, thank you for reading and I hope you are having an amazing day 🙂

xo, Tanya

  1. This DIY beaded succulent wall hanging sounds like a fun project! I love how you repurposed craft supplies. I once bought a random item and had no clue what to do with it, just like you with the faux succulent. Did you try any other attachment methods for the succulent stem before drilling? And where do you plan to hang yours first in the house?

  2. Such a beautiful and creative project, Tanya! The beaded detail with the succulent gives it a unique charm. I love how versatile it sounds for different spaces in the home.
