A very merry thrifed Christmas

Hello friends!

I am late to post this as I have been taking forever to get over a cold that should have been gone many days ago.

In my mom-robe and slippers I had enough oomph to go thru some of my favorite Christmas finds and display then in a new way to inspire you!

Luckily, you cannot smell my Vicks Vaporub from here, and for that I am grateful.

I don’t have a quilt fail or Amy Grant Christmas tape to share with you today, but instead a post with a few ideas and permission.

It is ok not to go all out.

It is ok to stick to a budget and not go into debt this year.

Your house does not have to look like it came out of a photo shoot to be cozy, welcoming and YOU.

And, my personal favorite, don’t do anything you don’t want to.

Yep, this time of year there is more pressure on us than ever, and we deserve to take care of ourselves, and do the things that bring us joy. Not weight us down.

I approached my decorating this year with, one, I am not buying anything besides our live tree we do each year. And two, am I going to want to deal with this in January?

Boy did that last question get me thinking, and inspired me to share some of my favorite thrift store Christmas goodness.

Ok let’s get cozy (and thrifty) I need to find a hybrid word for the two, ideas are welcome ๐Ÿ™‚

My first find is my ever evolving collection of lighted Christmas houses. No brand or style in particular, just houses and little shops and churches I would in real life stop and take pictures of and oooh and ahhh over in the snow.

Who wouldn’t want to spend as much time on a street lined with these if they could? I just curl up and enjoy them glow as evening rolls in each day.

I love them.

The next is layers, yes, we can hang a wreath and it’s beautiful (Goodwill find donated from Target and just the ribbon added!) but with the old door hung first, then the rusty metal accent, and the wreath, a trifecta of vintage Christmas prettiness.

Use what you already have! I added some greenery, candlesticks, ribbon and clementines to a glass pedestal from a local thrift store, all things I already had on hand.

Instead of using one layer of garland across the entire mantel and down the sides, I overlapped it and added some little trees I have had for years.

The green trees will stick around in January as a bonus as they make the best after Christmas decor!

You may be like me and have a bunch of ornaments you don’t use each year by the time the tree is done, why not fill a dough bowl and let them glimmer and shine?

A little greenery tucked in here and there and you have a very easy vignette for an entry way, dining table or just about anywhere.

Luckily I am beginning to be able to actually smell the real tree so I am surely going to kick this cold soon. I would love to hear what your thrifty hacks are for the holidays!

Drop me a comment and thank you SO much for reading, you have no idea how much you mean to me ๐Ÿ™‚

Until next time xx Tanya

  1. I loved your village. One of the few things my 18 yo granddaughter likes to help with at their home is putting up her mother’s village. SOOO… I have spent the year thrifting and shopping for bargain village houses and a few accessories for her. My favorite to date is a pet store; she worked at a doggy daycare during high school and loves animals! I do my heavy Christmas shopping on President’s Day when stuff is at its cheapest–so the bulk of my Christmas gifts are all paid for–now to get them wrapped!

    1. Kathy you are SO smart I love that idea! And what wonderful memories with your granddaughter ๐Ÿ™‚ Hugs and thank you for stopping by ๐Ÿ™‚ xx Tanya

  2. Hahahahaaa! You are hilarious.
I do hope you feel better soon and can put away your Vick’s…however that stuff works like a charm ๐Ÿ™‚
I ADORE your thrifty Christmas finds….there’s truly NOTHING better.
I’m all about sticking ornaments in bowls…I think I have like 5 of those in different parts of the house!!
1000% percent agree with everything you said ๐Ÿ™‚
Thanks so much for sharing at Home Imagined this week!

    1. Thank you so much Rachel ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope to retire the Vick’s soon and I love that you have bowls of ornaments everywhere, they are so fun ๐Ÿ™‚ Hugs to you friend xx Tanya

  3. I love the idea of putting ornaments in a tray. Never thought about it before but it makes so much sense because the balls do fall off and it would be so much easier to put them in a tray rather than hanging them up again.

    1. Thank you Catherine ๐Ÿ™‚ we always seem to have extra so I thought why not put them on display! Thank you so much for stopping by xx Tanya

  5. Hi Tanya – I hope you are feeling better. I love that you didn’t run out and buy new Christmas decor and focused on using what you had. The dough bowl with ornaments is such a practical, fun and pretty idea. Thank you for sharing your post with the Home Imagined Link Party.

  6. I love this approach to actually enjoying the holidays. Sometimes you can find things at a thrift store that are way better than what’s on store shelves right now. And that fat little Santa ornament is absolutely adorable! He must really put a smile on everyone’s face.

    1. Hi Kerri! I totally agree with you, I have had to use some serious self control when driving by local thrift stores lately haha! We all love chunky Santa too ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you for stopping by xx Tanya

  7. This post is a great reminder that the holidays donโ€™t have to be expensive to be meaningful. Thrifting adds a personal, creative touch to Christmas while also encouraging sustainability, which makes the celebration even more special. Such a refreshing and practical perspective.

  8. Bonuses for newbies are just the tip of the iceberg, because the real benefits lie in loyalty programs for regular users. In Australia, competition among gaming sites forces brands to offer exclusive conditions and personal gifts to active players. The play online pokies at FairGo platform stands out from the rest with its generosity and regular tournaments with large prize pools. I activated my first bonus and was pleasantly surprised by the wagering conditions. What was supposed to be a quick test turned into an hour of excitement and real wins.
